Absolved: Woman accused of killing husband released

GILGIT: 

A woman accused of killing her husband was found innocent and released on Tuesday. Last week the police had arrested the woman on charges of murdering her husband. Sher Mohammad, brother of Abdul Majeed, the deceased, had lodged a complained with the Cantt Police Station in Gilgit, accusing his sister-in-law and another man, Ahmad Khan, of killing his brother.

He had alleged in his report that his brother’s body had been dumped in the Gilgit River. In his report, Sher Mohammad, who belongs to Kohistan, said that Khan, a resident of Ghizer, was having an affair with his sister-in-law and killed Majeed so that he could marry her.

“We carried out in-depth investigations and found that the man had committed suicide,” said an official in the Cantt Police Station, adding that the body of the deceased had been found and that it was handed over to the heirs. He said that they released the woman after investigations were completed.

In Gillgit - Baltistan, it's not often that we come across photographs of girls/women playing some kind of sports. Some "openness" seems to have crept into the media practitioners' mind/hearts. What's the motive (intention) behind printing of these photographs, however, remains to be understood.
