Shagufta Anum "Murder" case - Press Coverage

Daily Baad-e-Shimal wrote an editorial in which the case has been presented as murder, not suicide.

Daily K2 has its own version of the story. They are reporting the case to be an incident of suicide, not murder.

Sada-e-Gilgit claims in a report that it has obtained postmortem report of Shagufta Anum. They have also published a "copy" of the report, in which it has reportedly been said that the death was caused by a severe injury to the head.

Two women murdered for "vengeance"

A 41 year old woman and her daughter were killed and thrown in a pool in the Jafar Abad village of Nagar Valley. Police have arrested two people. The women may have been killed in revenge, as both were recently released from prison, where they had been kept on charges of murder.

Man kills wife and her "aashna"

A woman has been killed in Mushkoo area of Punial Tehsil, Ghizer. The woman has reportedly been killed by her husband, who has went in hiding. The use of term "Aashna" by the media in a matter-of-factly manner is disturbing, because it tacitly gives a justification for the murder. The media should use more neutral words and wait for the Courts to deliver the verdicts.

Shagufta Anum case has been discussed by the Chief Minister also. He has directed the police officials to ensure transparent investigation and submit a report. He has also said that no interference in investigation of the case will be tolerated.
